Middle and New Kingdoms
What happened to Egypt during the Middle and new Kingdoms?During the Middle Kingdom Egypt took control of new lands. The people that were conquered were forced to send payment to the pharaoh. Egypt increased the amount of land being farmed and built a canal between the two rivers and the Red sea. During the Middle Kingdom, arts, literature, and architecture flourished. Instead of building pyramids pharaoh's would be buried in tombs cut into cliffs west of the Nile. These hills became the Valley of the Kings. The Middle Kingdom came to an end in 1670 BCE. During the New kingdom, Ahmose reigned all of Egypt. The new Kingdom lasted from 1550 BCE to 1080 BCE. During this time Egypt became richer and more powerful. In 1473 BCE Queen Hatshepsut ruled over Egypt. She brought great wealth from trade on the East coast of Africa. When Hatshepsut died her nephew Thutmose the third became pharaoh and expanded the empire.
