Journey To Canaan
On their way to Canaan, the Israelites received the ten commandments which were laws known as the Torah. The Torah Described a covenant with God. If they did as God wished he would return them to Canaan. It took the Israelites around 40 years to finally reach Canaan. In this time a man named Joshua was their leader ( since Moses died in those 40 years.) When they arrived in Canaan people were already there. The Israelites believed that it was God's will to fight these Canaanites and so he led them into battle. Joshua led the Israelites in 4 wars before conquering all of Canaan.
3 Things they should have done differently:
1. I believe that the Israelites should have taken over the Egyptians. The Egyptians were awful to the Israelites. They used them as slaves and worked them to death. The Israelites had strong numbers though and could have overpowered them.
2. The Israelites could have come up with a representative committee. This committee could keep their group organized and peaceful. This I think would help because they were bickering on the way to the Promise Land. I would be a little on the edge too if a had to wander through wilderness for 40 years.
3. The Israelites could have sailed instead of walked. While the Israelites were still in Egypt they could sail down the Nile River. It took the Israelites 40 YEARS to get to canaan. They could have cut their journey in half by doing this.
