EQ: How did the Mesopotamian Civilization develop? The Mesopotamian civilization started in the Fertile Crescent. It first started out as farming. This was because the Fertile Crescent had rich soil and plenty of water supply. River Valleys started up since their was enough food for many people. The rivers that surround Mesopotamia were great for traveling. Soon trade started which brought in large numbers of people. Since their was now trade and food and people it was no coincidence that cities formed. Thus started the Mesopotamian civilization.
